Grantown’s new £4.5 million care home for older people has reached a crucial milestone in its construction.
Representatives from local community groups joined teams from independent care home provider Parklands Group and builder CHAP on the development site for a topping out ceremony, as the final piece of the roof was laid into place.
The 40 bed facility, situated on the town’s Seafield Avenue, is due to open in spring 2018.
Ron Taylor, managing director of Parklands Group, said: “We are delighted at the progress we are making on site. Weather permitting, we hope to open the new care home in the spring of next year.
“This is our largest single investment to date and will provide a much needed community facility for the town. Like many areas of the Highlands, Grantown has a large and growing elderly population. The new care home will allow older people to continue to live in their local community, close to family and friends. It will also deliver a significant economic boost for the area, creating around 50 full time equivalent jobs.”
Douglas Thomson, managing director of CHAP, added: “We have made really good progress so far and reaching this critical stage before the winter sets in is an important milestone for the project. With the basic external shell now erected we are looking forward to progressing the internal works over the winter with a view to being complete on programme in the spring”.
