The SCDI Award for Excellence in People Development: Parklands Group
One of the north of Scotland’s leading independent care home providers has been recognised for its commitment to people development, securing this year's SCDI Award for Excellence in People Development.
Operating across seven locations in Moray and the Highlands, Parklands has grown steadily over the past twenty years and now has almost 500 employees.
In a sector where staff turnover is traditionally very high, Parklands Group has worked hard to create an employee culture where talent and hard work are rewarded.
Parklands’ in-house training centre, based in Keith, delivers high quality training plans tailored to the needs of individual staff while the company’s career development programme ensures that employees can progress through the business.
Over the past year they have introduced a new induction process and developed their own training academy in order to promote continuous development whilst also committing to paying the living wage across all of their care staff. A new employee reward system has been introduced and a careers section has been added to the company website showcasing some of the career opportunities within the company. Regular one to one meetings take place between staff and managers, and the managing director conducts annual appraisals with every member of staff, giving employees the opportunity to discuss their training and development needs.
Commenting on their success Parklands Managing Director, Ron Taylor said: “Parklands recognise the importance of our people to the success of the company. We have strived to improve investment in skills and to nurture a culture of continuous professional development.
“The care sector can struggle to attract and retain staff and we’ve worked hard over the past few years to support staff development, recognise achievements, and improve the pay for our care providers. This award is welcome recognition of that effort and our commitment to continual investment in our people over the coming years.”
SCDI Highlands & Islands Director, Fraser Grieve added: “It is vital that we work to improve the image of the care profession in order to attract and retain the talent needed to meet the needs of our aging population. Parkland’s commitment to ensure the continues development of their staff, engage and communicate regularly, and pay the living wage to their care workers, will all have a positive impact on their business and those they look after.
“They are worthy winners of this award and I hope they will continue their good work over the coming years.”
