5-star rating for Speyside

17 November 2022

Speyside Care Home has received a 5-star rating from industry regulator the Care Inspectorate.

The Aberlour home was rated ‘very good’ following an unannounced inspection earlier this month. Inspectors gave Speyside a 5-star rating for the way it supports people’s wellbeing and the quality of its leadership.

Inspectors spoke to residents, their relatives and staff during the visit and found “significant strengths in aspects of the care provided.”

It was noted that staff retention was good. “This meant that staff knew people very well. This contributed to the very high levels of satisfaction with the care and support provision,” the report said.

Care staff were praised for their “respectful and caring” interactions with residents. The report noted: “When the health or needs of people changed, the relevant plan was updated. This helped ensure that people got the care and support that was right for them.”

Inspectors also found “there was a focus on supporting people [to] lead active lives” and that residents were encouraged to take up new interests. Inspectors noted that the home was integrated into the local community and that residents were “visible and active members of the village.” By way of an example, the report noted that residents and staff had hosted a seasonal pop-up tearoom in the village.

The report also found “high levels of satisfaction about the taste and choice at mealtime. We felt the meals were appetising.”

There was also praise for the quality of leadership at Speyside, with inspectors noting that “the staff and management team had developed a culture of improvement.”

They found that residents were supported to have their say and were involved in their own care reviews. “This gave them the opportunity to say if their care and support was right and if any changes were needed. The service wanted people to experience care and support that was right for them,” the report said.

Louise Gillies, manager at Speyside, said: “I am delighted with our recent Care Inspectorate report. It’s a reflection of how hard our staff have worked, overcoming challenges like Covid-19 to deliver high quality person-centred care. Their work ethic, passion and enthusiasm is inspiring and I am so proud of everyone at Speyside.

“We aim to ensure our residents’ needs, wishes and preferences are met and I believe these grades are a true reflection of the service we strive to provide each day. As a team, we will continue to promote the health and wellbeing of our residents in positive, fun and creative ways.”
