Two Moray care homes have been recognised by the Care Inspectorate after it found “significant strengths” in their care provision.
Glenisla in Keith and Netherha in Buckie, both part of Parklands Care Homes group, were praised by the industry regulator following a series of unannounced visits.
Glenisla Care Home was awarded a 5 star rating (very good) by the Care Inspectorate following its inspection in May. Inspectors rated Glenisla for the way it supports people’s wellbeing and the quality of its leadership.
Inspectors spoke to residents, their relatives and staff during the visits and found “high levels of satisfaction with the management and staff team.”
Care staff were praised for consistently providing “very good levels of care and support.” The report said: “Staff were warm, kind and friendly in their interactional and engagement with people and their relatives. We felt that staff demonstrated compassion, respect and genuine love for people.” There was a high level of confidence in the quality of the service and staff team, the report found.
The report also noted that people moving into the home settled quickly and were supported to make friends with fellow residents. A busy programme of activities and visits into the local community ensured residents remained active and healthy, the report found. Residents were also positive about the quality of meals.
Relatives said that communication with the home was very good and those who live at a distance said they received frequent updates from the home. The report also noted that meetings with residents were held regularly and people were made to feel their contribution was valued.
Meanwhile, Netherha Care Home in Buckie was also praised for its high qualify of care following unannounced inspections in April. Again, Care Inspectorate officials spoke to residents, relatives and a number of employees.
Inspectors said: “Staff engaged with people at every opportunity and people showed genuine pleasure as a result of these warm and friendly conversations.” As a result, the report found that confidence levels with staff were high.
Netherha’s commitment to meaningful activities was also praised. The report found that residents were supported to stay connected with the local community through visits to bowling greens, shops and cafes. “The care and attention with people’s social health contributed to their general health and wellbeing,” it said.
The report also noted “high levels of satisfaction” with meals. “We felt the dining experience was relaxed and sociable. The service had recognised the important of supporting people eat well in a pleasant environment to help support health and well-being,” it said.
The report also noted that care plans were detailed and person-centred. It said: “when the needs of someone changed, their care documents reflected this change. This meant that staff delivered the care and support that was right for the person.”
It was also noted that the management team supported continual learning and improvement among care teams.
Netherha was rated 5 (very good) in four categories – support for residents’ well-being, quality of leadership, quality of staff and quality of care and support - and rated 4 (good) for the quality of its setting.

After two very difficult years for the care sector, they remain as hardworking and dedicated as ever and we are delighted that their commitment has been recognised by residents, relatives and the Care Inspectorate.”
She added: “We want to create the best possible living environment for our residents. With that in mind, we have earmarked additional resources to upgrade many of the bedrooms and shared facilities in our Moray homes. This work is already underway.”
