There’s gnome place like a care home

Residents at Speyside Care Home in Aberlour are giving Santa’s elves a run for their money.

The enterprising residents have started a production line making cuddly gnomes, with the proceeds going towards their comfort fund, which supports outings, special celebrations and in-home entertainment. The gnomes, which cost £5 each, have sparked huge interest on Facebook. Around 40 have already been sold and production has had to be stepped up to meet soaring demand.

Speyside activities coordinator Dorota Syzdlowska said: “We have been overwhelmed by the wonderful response we have received. The gnomes are absolutely delightful and make excellent gifts, so much so that they’re been snapped up faster than we can make them. Our residents have really enjoyed making them and have been bowled over by the reaction on social media. It’s a fun way for residents to express their creativity and raise funds for future outings and events. The residents have really taken to it and the gnomes look so adorable."
