Care team to scale Ben Wyvis in aid of residents

20 May 2026

Staff at a Ross-shire care home are preparing to scale one of the Highlands’ best-known Munros in a bid to raise money for residents at Urray House.

Four members of the team at the Muir of Ord care home will take on Ben Wyvis on 29 May to raise funds for the home’s residents’ comfort fund, which helps pay for outings, entertainment and activities.

At 1,046 metres, Ben Wyvis is one of Scotland’s most recognisable Munros, attracting walkers from across the country with its sweeping views over the Highlands.

The challenge will see carers Mel MacGruer, Emma Godwin, Rhys Deary joined by wellbeing coordinator Reem Abdi, with all four taking on their first Munro.

Emma said: “I enjoy my role as a carer because it’s such a rewarding job and brings happiness to the residents each day. I’d wanted to do my first Munro this year, so when the idea came up, I only had to think about it for a second before saying yes. Raising money for the residents’ comfort fund makes it even more worthwhile.”

Mel added: “This will be my first Munro as well and I can't think of a better reason to do it than for the residents at Urray House.”

Reem said: “I love seeing residents laughing and having a good time, so taking on this challenge to support them was an easy yes.”

Rhys added: “I joined Urray House when I was 16 and have never been happier in a job. Doing this for the residents of Urray House gives me that extra determination to raise as much as we can for their comfort fund.”

Following the climb, the team will host a community thank-you event at Urray House on 30 May to show their appreciation to everyone who has supported the fundraiser.

The family fun day, which runs from 12.30pm to 4.30pm, will feature live music throughout the afternoon, food, stalls, raffles, face painting and bouncy castles, alongside visits from Beauly Fire and Rescue and vintage tractor owners. The event is open to residents’ families and the wider community.

The team are well on their way to reaching their £450 target, with more than £230 already raised.*
