Residents at Lynemore in Grantown have been reminiscing about the past, thanks to Grantown Museum.
The museum loaned the care home a series of special memory boxes - one themed 'Don't forget the messages,' including a selection of food items, household implements and recipes from the 1950's & 60's presented in a Walls Ice Cream container, and ‘Toys Take a Trip,’ a selection of vintage toys and games presented in a wooden Sindy caravan.
A particular favourite was 'A holiday in Grantown,' a vintage leather case packed with holiday items for the discerning lady or gentleman traveller. The case includes gloves, evening shoes, toiletries, sunglasses, reading glasses, a safety razor, travel clock, sewing kit and a Grantown on Spey travel guide.
Activities coordinator Jasmin Mathew said: “We’re so grateful to Dan Cottam at Grantown Museum for very kindly loaning these memory boxes to us. The residents really enjoyed exploring each of the boxes and each item brought up lots of discussion about what it was, if they remembered it or if they had something similar. There were lots of memories, laughs and tales about their own childhood, their parents and family life. The book of stamps reminded a lady of her sister working for the Post Office in Glasgow and the food product Essence of Rennet reminded folk of their Mum or Granny preparing ‘Junket’ at home, and how you don’t hear of that so much these days.”
Among the residents who enjoyed looking through the artefacts was Joy Phillips who celebrates her 99th birthday on Friday 28 July.
Jasmin Mathew said: “Joy kept saying how all the items were lovely and had a huge smile. She looked at each item intently and it brought her a lot of contentment and joy."
