Deveron Way in Huntly has achieved “very good” ratings across key areas of care in its latest unannounced inspection, with one resident describing staff as “first class”.
The home was awarded Grade 5 (Very Good) ratings for residents’ wellbeing, leadership, its staff team and care and support planning. Its setting was rated Grade 4 (Good).
The results represent a significant improvement since the home’s previous inspection in June 2025, when the home was rated grade 4 across most areas.
In its latest report, inspectors highlighted the “kind, compassionate and respectful care” provided by staff and the “strong and meaningful relationships” they had built with residents. Families praised the care and support provided, while visiting health professionals described the team as very knowledgeable and quick to recognise changes in residents’ health.
Inspectors found “significant strengths” in the way Deveron Way supports residents’ wellbeing, noting examples of residents whose health and wellbeing had significantly improved since moving to the home. One resident said: “I have gained so much confidence since living here”, while another said their mobility was improving because of the support they received.
The staff team was also rated “very good”, with inspectors finding strong working relationships and high levels of staff satisfaction. One resident told inspectors: “Staff are first class”, while a relative said: “I am extremely happy with my relative’s care. The staff are so very kind.” Families also reported improved staffing levels, while inspectors noted that staffing arrangements enabled residents to receive consistent and stable care.
Parklands formally acquired Deveron Way in May 2024 and has since focused on strengthening care standards, staffing and facilities at the 60-bed home.
Kirsty Jones, Manager at Deveron Way, said: “I’m incredibly proud of our team and what they have achieved. The significant improvement in our ratings, with wellbeing, leadership, staffing and care planning all now rated grade 5, reflects the hard work and commitment they show every day.”
Jacqui Ferguson, Operations Director at Parklands Care Homes, added: “Deveron Way has made great strides and these results are testament to Kirsty and the whole team. To achieve four grade 5 ratings, including the key area of residents’ wellbeing, is a significant milestone and reflects the progress that has been made at the home.
“We also recognise that there is more to do. We remain committed to continuing to invest in Deveron Way and completing further improvements to the living environment, alongside our ongoing focus on delivering the highest possible standards of care.
“Deveron Way has come a long way under Parklands and our ambition is to build on that progress for residents, families and employees.”
The latest inspection took place over four days in August. The Care Inspectorate spoke to residents, family members, staff and visiting professionals, observed daily life at the home and reviewed care plans and other documentation.
The Care Inspectorate evaluates care services using a six-point scale, ranging from 1 (unsatisfactory) to 6 (excellent).
