A Buckie care home has been rated 'Very Good' in both areas assessed by the Care Inspectorate, with inspectors praising its compassionate care, skilled staff and strong community spirit.
Parklands & Burnbank, part of the Parklands Care Homes group and home to 49 residents, achieved Grade 5 (Very Good) ratings in two key inspection areas: supporting residents' wellbeing and the quality of the staff team.
Inspectors spoke to residents, families and staff members during the unannounced three-day visit in February and March.
Inspectors praised the home's “kind and caring interactions” and said people “were very happy living in Parklands” and “felt safe and secure in a community where they felt included and valued.” Families echoed this sentiment, with one relative saying: “We could not be happier with the level of care; it has exceeded all our expectations.”
The report also highlighted the home’s well-developed programme of activities and strong links with the local community, including schools and nurseries. One resident commented: “This was wonderful”, while a family member noted: “There is fantastic entertainment, there is always something nice to do.”
Inspectors found that residents “benefited from a warm and homely atmosphere” and that “staff worked well together in a supportive and respectful manner.” Staff were described as “well trained, confident, and competent.” Staffing was consistent and stable, with the right number of staff with the right skills on shift.
Inspectors also observed a strong team ethos, noting: “there was a whole team approach to care and support.” They highlighted the home’s investment in mentoring, along with its support for internal career development and leadership training. Inspectors also noted that previous recommendations had been implemented in full.
Welcoming the report, Ron Taylor, Managing Director of Parklands Care Homes, said: “This is a tremendous result for the team at Parklands & Burnbank and a well-deserved recognition of the care, compassion and professionalism they demonstrate every day. Achieving ‘Very Good’ ratings is no small feat and reflects the dedication of our staff and the warm, supportive environment they’ve created for residents and their families.
“Our manager Denise Risk has built a strong, capable team with a clear commitment to continuous improvement. This report shows they’re delivering consistently high standards of care and always looking for ways to make the home even better for those who live and work there.”
