Picture perfect: Care home residents discover their artistic streak

Residents at Eilean Dubh Care Home have been discovering their artistic streak with the help of Highland artist Liz Peck.

Liz, whose mother Helena is a resident at Eilean Dubh, has been leading a series of art sessions with residents in partnership with the home's wellbeing team, helping them create a striking collection of abstract paintings. 

Several framed pieces have been hung in residents' rooms, while a collection of colourful designs will be transformed into placemats and coasters to raise funds for the residents' comfort fund.

The group's next project is an eye-catching artwork inspired by the famous Chanonry Point dolphins. Residents have handcrafted a pod of dolphins, each individually decorated, which will be mounted on a painted backdrop of the Black Isle.

Liz has a longstanding relationship with Eilean Dubh. Last year, she worked alongside residents and staff to create the home's sculpture for the Highland HeArt Trail in support of Highland Hospice.

Liz said: “The art club is one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Every minute is a joy. It's been amazing to see how engaged everyone has been. Every piece is unique and made with such determination.”
