Pop-up shop raises over £4,000 for Buckie care home residents

9 April 2026

A community pop-up shop set up by volunteers and residents at Parklands and Burnbank care home in Buckie has raised thousands of pounds for the residents’ comfort fund, thanks to the support of their “wonderful community”.

The shop, which operated from a vacant unit on Queen Street in Lossiemouth, brought in a total of £4,280 through sales of donated clothes and household items, as well as raffle tickets.

The initiative was led by Nicola Leader, whose late father was a resident at Burnbank, with support from volunteers Helen Low, Lorna Fiske and others.

Residents also played an active role, with many enjoying time spent chatting with visitors and taking part in the day-to-day running of the shop.

The funds raised will support resident wellbeing, including days out, entertainment and activities over the summer, enhancing the daily life and experiences of residents.

Lisa Toogood, wellbeing coordinator at Parklands and Burnbank, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the total raised – it’s a fantastic result and well beyond our expectations. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who played a part in making this happen, especially Nicola, Helen and Lorna for all their hard work and effort.

“It was also wonderful to see our residents so involved, helping to run the shop, chatting with visitors and being part of the whole experience. Opportunities like this make a real difference, helping people stay connected, active and part of their local community.

“Thank you to everyone who donated, came along and supported the shop or bought raffle tickets. We’re so grateful for the continued support from our wonderful community.”
