Residents at Lynemore Care Home in Grantown recently enjoyed a trip into the wild, thanks to a unique collaboration with Alzheimer’s Scotland and the Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig.
The visit gave residents the chance to learn about wolves, polar bears and other exotic wildlife, with Jasper Hughes, Learning and Community Officer at the Wildlife Park, and Kenny Wright from Alzheimer’s Scotland leading a hands-on, multi-sensory session.
Residents were given biofacts from the Wildlife Park to match with photographs of different animals, before having the opportunity to touch furs, antlers and other items.
The adventure was organised by Lynemore’s new wellbeing team, Janet Baker and Kirsten Strugnell. Kirsten recently joined Lynemore after working at the Highland Wildlife Park as a Learning and Community Officer, where she worked with community groups and charities such as Alzheimer’s Scotland and arranged walking tours.
Kirsten said: “The residents loved every moment of the visit. It was fun to see them so excited about the animals and asking questions. For many of them, it was an opportunity to connect with nature in a way that’s both engaging and meaningful.”
Janet added: “Our residents will be talking about this visit for weeks to come - definitely a five-star experience at Lynemore!”
